Today Sun announces that they will purchase MySQL for $1 billion.   This should be a very good thing for MySQL and Sun.  Sun gets access to sell their equipment to a lot of users of MySQL that currently run on a flavor of Linux and PC hardware.    They can put some very good bundled deals together.  For MySQL, Sun has money to put into the product to help further improve the over all system and create/enhance the different storage engines.  For the Java developers out there maybe MySQL will now be on equal footing with Oracle which has traditionally been the database of choice for Java.
